Cast iron mooring bollards are essential mooring devices widely installed on quays, piers and jetties to reliably transfer mooring forces from moored vessels to the pier structure. As a rule, they are made from SCh200 gray cast iron, which has excellent casting properties, high wear resistance and excellent natural anti-corrosion characteristics, which significantly reduces the need for frequent maintenance compared to conventional steel counterparts.
A standard cast iron mooring bollard consists of a durable outer shell, anchor rods, nuts, washers, anchor plates, and a concrete or epoxy resin core filler. The hull thickness varies from 50 to 200 mm depending on the required tonnage load capacity. Three common types of head designs are available: single-horned, double-horned and full (closed). The single-horn type is suitable for over 80% of normal daily mooring operations, while the double-horn design reduces accidental rope slippage incidents to below 5%, and the full head version is ideal for challenging multi-directional mooring conditions.
These bollards are usually installed at a distance of 0.5 to 0.8 meters from the quay cordon line for conventional berths, with the distance between centers being set according to the length of the vessels. They are widely used in bulk, container, oil and gas terminals and yacht marinas, providing reliable and durable performance for daily mooring operations.
